Choosing the Best Rust Prevention System

Once you have selected your rust prevention system and proper formula, you can use the Rid O'Rust Formula Online Calculator to calculate your dosage.

Choosing the Best Rust Prevention System: Siphoning System or Injection System

Your choice of a rust prevention system is generally based on the type and size of irrigation pump you are using. See our recommendations below for rust prevention systems based on your irrigation pump type. If you chose an injection system, you must further decide which metering pump to use.

1. Centrifugal, above ground, up to 2 HP
Our Recomendation: Siphoning system

Pros:
  • Simple - no moving parts, easily serviced
  • Inexpensive
  • Easily installed, no electronics involved
Cons:
  • Feed rate set at 1 GPH
  • Must refill every 30 hours
Notes: Injection system is an alternative

2. Centrifugal, above ground, over 2 HP
Our Recomendation: Injection system

Pros:
  • More accurate than siphoning system
  • Can last up to 240 hours before refilling
Cons:
  • Electronics involved in installation
  • Moving parts, more complex servicing involved
  • More expensive than siphoning system
Notes: Siphoning system is an alternative if you don't mind refilling frequently

3. Submersible, below ground, any HP
Our Recomendation: Injection system must be used in all cases where a submersible pump is involved.
